How To: Creating a Simple Yet Elegant Floral Arrangement

Monday, April 2, 2012

Spring is so beautiful. Everything starts coming back to life including trees, chirping birdies, and....TULIPS! I was supposed to be really ambitious last year and remember to plant some around my home but I never got around to it. Shame on me. I will try again this year. ;)

Anyway, I just adore tulips. And what's better than tulips?- yellow tulips!! Yellow is my favorite color so inevitably it creeps its way into everything around and inside my home.

Well wouldn't you know it- while shopping at Kroger this past week I happened upon some gorgeous yellow tulips! 'And' it was only $2.50 for this little bouquet. I just couldn't pass it up. While I was gazing at which ones to choose a sweet little old lady came up to me and said "Aren't these so delightful to see when the weather is just plain dismal out?" I couldn't agree more. So, I picked out a happy yellow bunch and headed to the checkout!

Today we're going to review how to create a simple yet elegant floral arrangement. It's really not that hard. A good rule of thumb for elegant is this: snag a bouquet of flowers that are all the same. For example- if roses, then choose a bouquet that is ALL roses- not a mix. Or in my case, I chose all tulips.

Let's get started creating our adorable arrangements!

Simple Yet Elegant Floral Arrangement:

A peek a the tulips beforehand:

To begin, untie your flowers from the bunch and carefully lay them out on a cutting board.
Cut the flowers off of the stem and leave them the appropriate length for however deep the vase is.

Choose a vase that is short and round like this one:

Next you're going to take the foliage from the tulip stems, cut them at the base, and layer them around the inside of the vase. This will give it a 'very' sophisticated & artistic feel. It should look something like this:

After you've arranged the foliage how you like it, take your tulips and organize them neatly inside the vase. Like this:

Pretty:

That's it! Simple huh? After a few days of letting the tulips soak in water they will open up nice & look beautiful. :)

Well, that wraps it up for me today! I have a billion things to do before the night ends. I am starting my 'Monthly Meal Planning' today in the McBride home. I just might have to blog about it later if it proves to be successful. :)

I hope you all have a wonderful evening. Thank you so much for reading! Oh yeah- and 'Spoiler Alert' I have an extra special treat coming up for all of you so don't miss a moment of the action here at The Bee's Knees!
