Shortbread... Tall Flavor!

Friday, September 28, 2012

Please join me in welcoming back guest blogger- Candice!! Take it away girl...

Pick up your oven mitts and get into that Julia Child-esque mindset… It’s time to bake! Now I know that might be a scary feat for those who are not culinary-inclined, but I promise you that this simple, festive recipe is completely fail proof. Just try to prove me wrong, I dare you ;)

Here’s what you’ll need:
3 cups of flour
½ cup of sugar
2 sticks of butter

First, preheat the oven to 300 degrees.

Next, you need to soften up the butter a bit. Don’t melt it all the way though.

Thirdly, add the sugar to your soft butter and mix well, making sure that there are no lumps (mixing by hand works best).

Lastly, gradually mix in flour until the dough is smooth.

Put mixture into an ungreased (preferably glass) 9X13 pan and press down, making sure to distribute the dough evenly. Using a fork, poke holes into the dough all throughout the pan. This allows the shortbread to bake evenly. Also, I personally like to sprinkle some sugar on top of the shortbread for added sweetness

Bake the shortbread at 300 degrees for 1 hour, then reduce heat to 250 degrees for another 20 minutes. Once the shortbread is out of the oven, make sure to cut it into squares within the first ten minutes, otherwise the shortbread will become too crumbly.

Ta-da! You’re done! Told you it would be easy. With such simple ingredients and easy instructions, this is basically the perfect recipe for fall. So enjoy!

(Special thanks to my Great Aunt Minnie for creating this delicious family favorite!)
