I know it's a lofty claim....But this really is the best recipe 'ever'. I'm delivering on my recipe promise just before Christmas (sorry for the delay) as some of you still have cookies to bake before the big day!!
Ok ladies, get your aprons ready and brace yourself for some sugar cookie fun! And for crying out loud- crank up the Christmas jams. ;) Let's get started...
Sugar Cookie Ingredients & Method:
*1 cup of butter (softened & UNsalted)
*1 cup of sugar
Cream together until blended well & smooth.
Next- mix together:
*3 cups of flour
*1 tsp. cream of tartar
*1/2 tsp. salt
*1 tsp. baking soda
*1 tsp. vanilla
Add the dry ingredient mix little by little until everything is blended together well. I like to let the dough sit in the fridge for about 15-20 minutes for easier handling. Transfer the dough to a clean and WELL FLOURED surface and roll it out with a rolling pin.
Use assorted cookie cutters and have fun making shapes!! **Note: You may need to add more flour to the dough if necessary. The dough can be a little sticky at first but have no worries- extra flour will not hurt anything. Finally- transfer to an un-greased baking sheet and bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes. Do not over-bake. Watch your edges- when they are slightly browned, take them out.
*1/2 cup of soft butter
*3 3/4 cup powdered sugar
*2-4 tablespoons milk
*1 tsp. vanilla
Blend everything together well and ice cookies when they've cooled.
*Note: you can separate the icing into various different bowls if you'd like different frosting colors. We did blue, white, green, and red! :)
MERRY CHRISTMAS my dear friends!... And happy baking! Love you.
