Indoor S'mores

In my family we take s'mores very seriously. Maybe it's a northern thing, I don't know. But those posers who use only ONE lousy marshmallow are seriously missing the mark. Just saying...

Those who have graced our home for a bon fire leave forever changed by the magnitude of yummy we squeeze into the savory little treats. And while, in a perfect world, one could enjoy a camp fire and beautiful weather at any time, it is highly unrealistic that the settings will prove 'just right' each time a craving arises. *A dilemma immediately rises in the mind of the reader.* Don't fret, I am here to inform you that I hold the key to a solution- Indoor S'mores!

Yes, you heard me right! When you feel 'the urge to splurge' coming on strong- bust out the toaster oven and get ready to partayyy! In fact, you could turn this into an entire 'stay-at-home' date night if you wanted to. Think about it..... A movie, popcorn, s'mores, etc. Sounds like a good time to me!

Ok, get out the milk and toaster and let's make some s'mores.

Indoor S'mores

First- get the goods! Graham crackers, marshmallows, & chocolate. *Note: my s'more chocolate of choice is dark chocolate but we didn't have any for this batch, bummer.

Prep it! Get the chocolate and graham crackers broken into squares like so:
Next, get them ready to receive the marshmallows by stacking little piles in this order: 1. Graham Cracker, 2. Chocolate, 3. Graham Cracker.  Got it?

Roast 'em & toast 'em baby. Simply line them up on a piece of tin foil, put them in the toaster oven, turn it on, and watch them brown!

They get so fat & fluffy!!

Once they're browned, place 'one' marshmallow between the graham cracker & chocolate on side one....

Then flip it over and do the same with side two!

Yummy! I recommend you enjoy your s'more with a cold glass of Almond Milk (or your favorite milk beverage of choice).

:) Thoroughly enjoy yourself!

Oh, what's that? You like that manicure?? You can find my tutorial on DIY Newspaper Nails by clicking here.

Make the most of your Monday people! And as always- thanks for reading.

Ps- **A huge thank you to my cool mother who opened her home and gave me the incredible idea of posting this tutorial. Love you mom!

DIY Ombré Scalloped Shorts

Welcome to the LAST installment of Ombré Week here at The Bee's Knees!
Who has an old pair of shorts or pants that they would like to refashion? Well get them ready because today we're going to crop, scallop, and dye them into something marvelous!

I've had this old pair of Gap Bermuda shorts sucking up space in my closet for far too long and I decided it was time to breath new life into these babies.

For this project I used the same dyeing method as I did in the DIY Ombré Tee tutorial from earlier this week, so please click the link to see how to create this effect. And as always, if you have any questions whatsoever, just leave me a comment. Actually, leave me a comment anyway because I just LOVE hearing from you fabulous people!

DIY Ombré Scalloped Shorts

Lay shorts flat on a table and scallop them using a sharp pair of scissors.

After scalloping both sides you will need to try them on and make sure that both sides are even. It took me a few minutes to get both of them to line up.

Hang the shorts with a hanger and get them ready for dyeing.

Begin spraying the bottom of the shorts, saturating them heavily with the dye. As you get closer to the top spray lighter and lighter.

Now you will want to let the shorts dry COMPLETELY with the dye on them. After this, rinse them well in the sink until most of the dye is out. Finally, throw them in the washer and wash as usual (preferably by themselves as the dye is potent!).

Wear them!! I wish the color was more bold, but nevertheless, I LOVE theses shorts!

The back.

More hair updates!! It's no secret that I'm pretty stoked about my hair getting longer. I've been waiting a long time for this moment folks. ;) I tried curling my hair today for the first time in a long time and it actually works! Whew... soo excited to embrace the noodles once more. Check it out::::

And if you're wondering, the top is from Love Culture. I snagged it for $6.00! Yippie! Don't you adore polka dots?

Okey dokey.... That's it for me today. I wish you all a great weekend! Thank you (from the bottom of my heart) for reading.

Ombré Eye

Hello friends and welcome to 'Part 2' of  Ombré Week here at The Bee's Knees! Today we'll be taking a spin through an easy-to-do eye tutorial that's sure to give you the most gorgeous ombré results. I think you're going to love this statement eye look that works perfect for an evening out!

For colors I used Buxom's light green shadow in Shih Tzu (inner eye), Sephora's shocking bright green color from their collection (center eyelid), Lorac's sparkly black (outer eye), and another Lorac light tan color on the upper brow bone. I also used Revlon's Color Stay Eyeliner in black and two coasts of Covergirl Lashblast mascara.

Ok, are you ready to get colored!?

Ombré Eye Look

1. Start by applying (to primed eyes of course) a light green color to the inner corners of the eyes only.

2. Next add a darker green and cover the remainder of the eyelid. Saturate it pretty heavy to ensure a bright hue.

3. Take a stiff brush and pack some black onto the outer corners of the eyes. Black can be scary to some people but it doesn't have to be. Just try 'patting' it on. Then make sure you blend it in well with a blending brush.

Another view

4. Add a soft & shimmery highlighting color just under the brow bone. This really makes the rest of the colors stand out. Blend 'all' colors together well after this.

5. Apply liquid liner and fill in brows

6. Mascara!- Last step. Apply two coats.

The Finished Product:

Aaaaannnnnd, we're done! I hope you will be brave and try a new and fun eye look soon. I know some of my readers can be hesitant when it comes to pulling off daring styles. Just start with something less bold and work your way up. You might find that you 'LOVE' it. At the last wedding I was at I applied makeup on a girl that was a minimalist. When I finished her makeup she looked hesitant at first (because she's used to wearing very little) but by the end of the night and several compliments later, she came to me saying how excited she was to continue trying new things!

Sometimes we just need a little confidence boost. ;)

In other news-
My amazing mother was FINALLY able to style my hair in an updo! Can you believe it? I was so ecstatic. I just loved the way this turned out. She took pieces of hair and pinned them this way and that way until it looked fabulous. Take a peek at the back:

Thank you so much for reading and following! I love you guys. :) I hope you're enjoying Ombré Week. Friday will conclude the series and it's going to be another fun post so watch for that.

Have a great rest of your week, wherever you are in this world!

DIY Ombré Tee

Welcome to the first installment of Ombré Week here at The Bee's Knees!

Ombré coloring/dying is HUGE right now. I've seen this method used lately on anything from hair, nails, dresses, shirts, pants, and beyond! It seems that ombré is everywhere! Today I'm here to show you a super cute way to spice up an old cotton tee!

All you will need is a spray bottle, box of RIT dye, and (1) cotton shirt. That's it!

I have 'several' more ombré/dye ideas and variations that I'll be showing in upcoming blogs (because I had so much fun creating this one) so stay plugged in to see those. Let's jump in to today's post!

DIY Ombré Tee

My plain green cotton tee from Victoria's Secret.

Good ol' Rit Dye! Mix a small portion in warm water and shake well in spray bottle.

Spray bottles. Picked up at the Dollar Store.

Stretch the shirt over the lid of a bin or some other board/plastic material.

Begin spraying the dye onto the shirt. Start with heavy saturation at the bottom and then gradually get lighter & lighter the closer you get to the top of the shirt.

It should begin looking something like this.

The back.

Let the shirt COMPLETELY dry then rinse it out well under the sink until most of the dye is out.

Throw it in the washer (preferably by itself) and wash as normal.
WEAR IT! The color fades out 'soo' nicely and looks awesome.

I hope everyone has a fabulous week! Make sure to tune in on Wednesday and Friday for the remaining installments of Ombré Week here at The Bee's Knees! It's going to be exciting.

I LOVE my followers. :) If you haven't taken the time to do so- get plugged in today!

DIY Jewelry Hanger/Mounts

Can someone say TGIF?!

Welcome to a fun little Friday DIY tutorial here at the Bee's Knees. I know there are a million and one ways to get creative when it comes to storing jewelry these days. When you scan through Pinterest you can find just about every way possible to hang & store your valuables! I happen to be a huge fan of these cute little wall mounts so I chose to create some for myself. Let's take a peek at how to make these cuties.

DIY Jewelry Hanger/Mounts

Materials: Two canvases (I scored mine at the dollar store), Two fabric quarters, Cute buttons (or other embellishment), Hooks, and a hot glue gun.
Cut fabric just big enough to stretch and fit around the back of the canvas.
Fold fabric around the back and hot glue it in place. **Note- I personally think it would work better if you use a staple gun but since I don't have one 'yet' I just hot glued it.
Embellish it! Get creative and have fun.

Screw in hook nails. First start by tapping the end in with a hammer. This will help you twist it in easier.
Finished!

Well, it's crunch time for me as I will be running a 5k in about two weeks! Ben is my coach and he is whipping me into good shape, no worries. ;) I will make sure to post all the details and pictures from the event when it comes. I'm really looking forward to it.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Next week is going to be another good one here at The Bee's Knees so stay tuned for all the fun. Oh, by the way- who is going to see The Dark Knight Rises this weekend?? I think that may be in our plans. I'm really looking forward to it.
