Nailing it: The glitter eclipse manicure

Thursday, September 12, 2013

There's no doubt about it- with fall quickly approaching, I'm getting more and more anxious to start having some serious fun with my nails again! I'm kicking off the season with a bang in these sparkling beauties. If I'm totally honest, I was inspired to try this look after I saw Keiko Lynn wearing a similar manicure 'here' for NYFW. And if you have troubles with shaky hands or feel like you can never 'nail' a good manicure, you're in luck!- this one's for you. This look is not about perfection and the glitter is very forgiving.

I'll be releasing a few more 'involved' DIY manis this fall for all of you challenge seekers, but for now, let's dive into this glitter eclipse tutorial. --->
First you'll want to start with a dark base color. I chose to use my trusty ol' Vampsterdam by OPI. I LOVE this dark purple and have used it here many times before. Make sure you apply a clear base coat and 'two' coats of the dark polish.

The trick to achieving the right look is to make sure you use a heavily saturated glitter polish for the edges (plus it makes your manicure last longer!).
Next- Take your glitter polish, make sure you tap off any excess polish from the brush, and simply line the base and sides of your nails with glitter. *You'll want to concentrate more glitter polish at the base and ends of the nail. I tried to round the insides too, to really give it an eclipse feel.
Done!
I always feel like pictures never do it justice when it comes to glitter anything, but oh well. :-/

I'm 'really' looking forward to a few cooler days coming our way here in Michigan (starting tomorrow!). It's been in the 80's and 90's for the past few days and I'm kind of over it. Oh yeah, and muggy. Double negative. Besides, I've got so many cute fall things that I'm excited to wear. :)

Thanks for reading!
