Detroit // Eastern Market

This weekend I whisked Ben away for a belated Father's Day overnight trip to Detroit. We've been wanting to go for a while and see all the new improvements to 'America's Comeback City' and to visit Belle Isle. My parents were gracious to watch Winston for us and we had the best time. We started our trip by exploring Belle Isle. We grabbed some mediterranean cuisine to-go (YUM) from Hamtramck and enjoyed it picnic-style on the island. It was about 85 and sunny both days of our trip- perfect! Once we finished our picnic lunch we explored the Belle Isle aquarium and the Anna Whitcomb conservatory. Both were even better than we expected and we loved it! The conservatory was my favorite. So many unique plants and trees. They had a cactus room with all kinds of cool cacti and succulents. We also saw orange, banana, and fig trees, all bearing fruit!

The rest of our time in Detroit was spent exploring various downtown places. We loved midtown and especially Shinola. I've been wanting to visit their flagship store for a while now, so that was a treat. Now I just have to convince Ben to buy me a watch. ;) My favorite is the Birdie! A beautiful double wrap band and rose gold finish.

Saturday morning we wrapped up our trip by spending several hours at the Eastern Market, one of the largest and oldest year-round markets in the United States. SO INSPIRING. I'm a farmers market kind of gal, so this was one of my favorite parts of Detroit. It is mind blowing how huge this market is. And murals?- Murals galore! Last September the Eastern Market hosted a 'Murals in the Market' festival which transformed the area into a public display of art! It's fun to explore the side streets and see which murals you can find. One of my favorites was Kashink & Thor, located at the corner of Riopelle & Winder. I was fascinated by all the colors!

This dress is from Black Swan. It's so dreamy! It's also extremely lightweight which makes it perfect for summer. I love the stitching details and scalloped bottom. It was perfect for exploring the market.

I'll be back this Wednesday to share more about our time in Detroit. Have a great week!
