Whole 30

This Monday I embarked on a 30 day journey to change my health for good. Whole 30 has been staring me down for a while, enticing me to try its ways. I've hesitated because it's easier to just keep doing what I've been doing. Who really likes the thought of giving things up, anyway? Here's what I 'do' know- I want to live whole & healthy and I want to take care of my body and give it the nutrition it really needs. I want to change the way I look at food. I don't want to view food as a reward program and I'm tired of the 'I deserve this' mentality. So, I'm giving this a whirl.

Whole 30 in a nutshell: No grains, sugar, dairy, alcohol, legumes (beans), or anything artificial. You just eat WHOLE foods. I'm amazed at how easy it's been so far, really. Here's the not-so-secret secret: you have to prepare, prepare, prepare. If you don't meal plan, you will fail. You MUST have items on hand at home to create meals that meet the Whole 30 guideline. I've found that I LOVE exploring new foods, sauces, etc. And in general, I'm loving all the new creativity I have in the kitchen. Ben is doing this with me and he has loved everything I've prepared so far. We're also doing this program with two of our dear friends, Jenny & Jeremy.

I wanted to share this with my community here as a means of accountability. I'm hoping to emerge a different person at the end of this cleanse. So, have you tried Whole 30? What were your takeaways? Any good recipe ideas? I'm open! Let's hear it.
