If you've been following along here for any length of time, then you know how much I love our little town as I write about it 'all the time'. Owosso is such an awesome community of people. We often have visitors from out of town comment on how welcoming and fun it is here. There's been a major shift in our economy in the last few years and SO many new and exciting things are popping up everywhere, it seems.
The Michigan Retailers Association has launched their year-round shop local campaign called Buy Nearby and today I get to share some of my favorite local shops, restaurants, etc. with you! Yay. Make sure you participate in the Buy Nearby photo contest on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Just use the hashtag #ibuynearby during the first weekend in October (1-2) while you're out shopping local and you could win a $500 gift card! Score. Here's the lineup of a few of my favorite places:
I love Norm Henry Shoes! They have been in our community for a very long time and they offer such a great variety of high-quality shoes. A few of my favorite brand selections- Sperry, Minnetonka, and Hush Puppies, just to name a few. The service is always wonderful at Norm Henry. When was the last time you had someone actually measure your foot for a shoe fitting?! Yep, they do that- and more. And the best part is that they can order anything that's not in stock. So if you're really wanting a certain color, size, or style that's not in store, they've got you covered. They offer an 'incredible' buy-one-get-one half off sale in October that's worth noting. To get the exact sale dates, contact them directly. I'll update this post when I know more.
I love Birch & Elm! They are new to our community as of this year and Shannon, the owner, is my soul sister. Love that girl. She and her husband, Joe, take so much pride in their business and it really shows. I can 'always' walk in and find something I love. I've also enjoyed helping them with styling and whatever else they need at various in-store events. So great to have a clothing boutique in Owosso! And come on, isn't it darling?
Foster is one of my favorite places to spend time in downtown Owosso. I get together with a few sweet friends every week in the early morning hours for coffee before Winston's awake. It's also a great place for meetings, studying, date night, etc. Although I usually just find myself dropping in to creep on my cute sister who's a manager there. ;) Foster serves 'only' Madcap coffee and they even have a specialty Foster blend roasted just for them! Definitely a must-do in Owosso.
I've mentioned Lula's several times in other blog posts but they're worth mentioning again! Their Louisiana-inspired cuisine is just heavenly. AND- they just won the bragging rights to 'Best Fried Chicken' in Michigan! A few of my favorites- the chicken & waffles, bayou fried rice (a meal by itself!), and their homemade beignets! My mouth is watering just typing this.
Smith and Voss has been my home salon for 8 years now. I 'love' the experience I have when I'm there. My girl, Leah, is amazing and always delivers above and beyond what I expect in a hair stylist. I can count on being pampered when I'm there for any service- hair, pedicure, shellac, etc. The two owners are great friends of mine and I just love them. Talk about great taste!- Isn't the salon just gorgeous?
I love having a specialty meats shop downtown! I usually swing by Bellingar's first to see what meats are on sale and then plan my week's meals around that. They have been wonderful in accommodating my special requests, too. They can pretty much cut anything fresh for me if I ask.
This weekend was our town's annual art walk and Ben and I had so much fun strolling Winston around and snapping these photos. It was the perfect time to get out and enjoy all that Downtown Owosso has to offer. I just love it here. Here's what I wore for our day out-
And just a reminder- Make sure you participate in the Buy Nearby photo contest on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Just use the hashtag #ibuynearby during the first weekend in October (1-2) while you're out shopping local and you could win a $500 gift card!
Other favorites not pictured above:
Lance's Bakery- The best doughnuts ever. Period. Worth the drive from anywhere.
Apple Tree Lane- Excellent selection of Michigan made gifts, homemade chocolates, and gourmet popcorn! I love this place. I send Ben here for my chocolate cravings. ;)
Freddie's Party Store- Soda, beer, wine, and 5 and dime candy buckets. A wide selection of everything! We love Freddie's and frequently ride our bikes downtown to grab a glass bottled pop. Faygo Rock-N-Rye, of course.
Abiding in the Vine- Voted Michigan's #1 Tea Room! The tea selection is heavenly and if you order a 'High Tea', you'll get an amazing assortment of mini sandwich bites, sweets, and tea. The owner is a dear friend and one of the best cooks I know! You'll love everything.
